MotorStorm: Pacific Rift getting patch

Game World Comments (0)

Filed under:

This will be the last post we make before the site redesign goes into effect. Are you excited?

Our site isn’t the only thing getting patched. No, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift will also be getting some post-release bug fixin’ fun. According to the PlayStation.Blog, the patch will arrive soon and will include the following features:

  • Restrictions to the copying of Saved Data have been removed. This will make it possible for Saved Data to be backed up and then restored to the User Account it was created under (whether that’s on the same PLAYSTATION 3 or not).*
  • Changes to the way the game handles data. These changes will help to prevent Saved Data corruption.
  • Visual notification of critical save progress has been added. A ‘MotorStorm Helmet’ icon will be displayed on-screen to warn users that critical data is being saved. This is in addition to the HDD Access light which currently flashes while the game makes a critical save.
  • The glitch which enables a player to exploit the Boost system has been removed. The development team are working to identify which times have been achieved using this glitch; Action will be taken to ensure that the Leaderboards become genuinely competitive again.
  • Time Attack times and Rank information will update correctly for all players. Any pending Time Attack times will begin to filter through systematically and the online Ranks should display correctly once the update is released.
  • Additional fixes and improvements to gameplay. Many thanks for your feedback on these and other issues so far; we are still investigating the other issues that have been brought to our attention.

Simon asks anytime you spot someone with gold bars, all the way from Master Sergeant to Brigadier General, you should yell out, “Gold bars make you rich!” We’ll bite and make sure we do it. Actually, we’ll take it a step further and just blast this song in our headset every time we play Halo 3 online. That’s what the kids do nowadays, isn’t it?

Guitar Hero: World Tour tops Rock Band 2 in by 2:1 in 2008

Game World Comments (0)

GameSpot reports that the NPD Group has released the overall sales data for both Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour for 2008 and World Tour has come out on top. Breaking it down, across all SKUs and every platform, Guitar Hero: World Tour managed to sell 3.7 million copies in North America, while Rock Band 2 sold 1.7 million copies. It’s important to remember that Rock Band 2 had a staggered release schedule, hitting each platform at different times, while Guitar Hero: World Tour landed on each platform simultaneously.

Furthermore, the numbers don’t take into acount the sales of the original Rock Band, which can be had at a lower price than the sequel (an important consideration in today’s economy).

Sorry to break it to you, fanboys, but the Xbox 360 Fancast is going to be a little late this week. You may have heard that the Joystiq network is undergoing some pretty significant changes this week, so we decided to delay the Fancast so we could talk about those changes in more detail. Keep an eye out for the Fancast post tomorrow, as the changes might affect the podcast subscriptions of some listeners. We’re going to do our best to make sure that the current RSS feed will transfer automatically for as many listeners as possible, but you may need to subscribe to a new feed. We’ll be sure to give the info you need in the Fancast post tomorrow.

And just because we love you so much, you can check out our new Fancast logo above, created by one Terrence Stasse. Enjoy.

Street Fighter: Ken statue is limited to 300 units

Game World Comments (0)

Make space on your gaming shrine because this limited edition Ken statue is big; 19.5″ inches on its base, big. Getting this Ken statue to hover over your gaming library comes at quite a price, though. Sporting a $250 price-tag, this statue is limited to a run of 300 figures. In preparation of Street Fighter IV’s release, this figure will be made available in the USA through SideshowCollectibles.com beginning January 29th and in specialty retail stores. Figures begin shipping in June. Collectors may want to hold out because Sideshow Collectibles will release its own variant of the figure limited to 150 units. No price has been revealed but we expect it to be similar if not even more. Start saving those pennies, SF fans.

Spotted: Miniature Halo 3: ODST box art [update]

Game World Comments (0)

Update: As has been pointed out, the ODST box art appears on the Xbox.com XBLM as seen here. But we demand an even higher resolution shot. Microsoft has been contacted and we await a response.

Using our almost inhuman investigative skills, we’ve turned up the very first picture of the official Halo 3: ODST box art which should receive thunderous applause and praise from Halo fanboys the world over. But the news won’t receive said applause and we won’t receive said praise, because the box art picture is a wee-bit tiny. So miniature that the picture you see above is the actual size.

We’re still trying to track down an embiggened version, but for now, take comfort in knowing that ODST’s cover isn’t going to feature rainbows or unicorns. Instead, it’ll be 100% Halo l33tness.

Square Enix prepares “steady stream” of titles for XBLA

Game World Comments (0)

Hot on the heels of the announcement of Crystal Defenders for Xbox Live Arcade, 1UP reveals that Square Enix has still more planned for the download service. The next announced title will be Yosumin Live, a port of a Japanese puzzle game originally designed for the DS, which was first rumored — and more or less confirmed — early this month. The game requires players to connect blocks of the same color diagonally, thus eliminating all the blocks in between. The further apart the two original block, the bigger the score. If it sounds confusing, you can check out a video of the original after the break.

It looks like Square Enix isn’t stopping there, as 1UP reports that the press release announces that the company plans to release “a steady stream of its popular titles — as well as original content” on XBLA in the future. Exactly what these titles will be remains to be seen. It’s possible Square Enix will draw from its catalog of mobile games or, dare we dream, even its catalog of RPGs.
